Sherry Mills

Sherry Mills, 61, passed away on October 8th 2022 after her long and courageous fight with cancer. She was born November 11th, 1960, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Larry & Mary Sassman. Sherry was a loving, compassionate, kind, caring, and sentimental soul. She was passionate about many things; her family, friends, flowers, music, antiques, décor (her pretties), and decorating. As a floral designer she had an eye for beauty, balance, and color that few possess. She especially loved designing wedding and special event flowers for friends and family. She created beautiful scenes using fresh or silk flowers and it was not uncommon to catch her putting the “Sherry Touch” on arrangements that she would pass by in public places making them just that much better. Sherry also loved to build relationships. Titles like co-worker, neighbor, and classmate were quickly replaced with friend as she always looked for and found the good in everyone. Her loveable personality helped make steadfast and lifelong friends in all seasons of her life. Once you had been Sherry’s friend long enough, you became part of her family. Sherry considered her family the crowning accomplishment in her life. Nothing meant more to her than her husband, children, and grandchildren. She chased them around with a camera and loved to brag about them every chance she got. Creating a magical childhood for her kids was one of her primary goals in life and she continued to pour that magic and love into her grandchildren. Sherry’s love for friends and family was contagious and you couldn’t help but want to be loved and love others like she did. She simply loved to love. Her love will live on in those that called her Soulmate, Mom, Gramme, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and beloved friend. Sherry is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Tim Mills; children, AJ (Heather) Mills, Kelley (Brandon) Reher; grandchildren, Cameron, Kyle, and Kason Mills; mother, Mary Sassman; brothers, Doug (Joy) Sassman, Mark Alan (Dr. Kent Krach) Sassman; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Marvin & Lorrene Sassman, Fred & Bessie Mclaughlin, and her father, Larry Sassman. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 8:30 – 11:30 AM Saturday, November 5th, 2022 at Crown Point Community Center located at 6300 Pioneer Parkway Johnston, IA 50131.
