Lonny Dean Parsons Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lonny Dean Parsons was born April 2, 1941, in West Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away June 11, 2022, at the age of 81, peacefully at his home in Urbandale. Lonny grew up in Highland Park in Des Moines. He was in business with his brothers for several years doing block and concrete work as Parsons Construction Company. He met Sandy Estes. They married on June 24, 1961. They proceeded to have 3 sons, Troy, Todd, Tray. Lonny left the construction business to go to Casey’s Corporate Transportation Department where he later retired from. Lonny was very involved in racing, it was his true passion. He was a car owner for sprint cars, late models, and NASCAR. He spent countless hours at Knoxville and traveled all over for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car races. He loved to travel and loved the races. In 1968, Lonny starred in the movie ‘Fever Heat’ as Chip Van. They used two of his cars and filmed it in Stuart, Iowa. Lonny enjoyed gathering family for the holidays, and loved telling stories to everyone. Lonny is survived by his companion, Barb Bauer; his sons, Troy (Carie) Parsons, Todd Parsons, Tray (Sheri) Parsons; 8 grandchildren, Cody (Shanae) Parsons, Cory Parsons, Courtney Parsons, Colten Parsons, Lenox Parsons, Ben (Katie) Parsons, Jacob (Anna) Parsons, Garrett Parsons; 5 great grandchildren, Amelia, Eloise, Vaeya, Vanna, Beckham and his extended family, Troy (Tracy) Bauer, Gage Bauer, Blake (Brandon) Nordman, Christy (Craig) Cory, James Cory and Cole Cory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Maude Parsons; wife, Sandy Parsons; siblings and their spouses, Gene (Adalene) Parsons, Dorothy (Dick) Hatch, Pat (Joe) Sirianni, Nile (Cleo) Parsons and Sam (Bonnie) Parsons. Celebration of Lonny’s Life will be 2PM Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be 12PM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Knoxville Hall of Fame Museum. Oh floral deliveries may be made to the Merle Hay Funeral Home on Thursday after 8 AM.
