David B. Johnson

David Brian Johnson, 63, passed away at his home in Polk City, IA under hospice care on May 10, 2020. David was born in Detroit, MI on December 6, 1956 when his father was in the army. He was the son of Jerold and Elizabeth Johnson of Ankeny, IA. The family moved back to Ankeny when David was a toddler. David graduated from Ankeny High School in 1975. He farmed with his dad before becoming an independent carpenter. Hawaii was one of his favorite places to live and work. David loved the outdoors. In recent years, when weather permitted, you could find him out fishing with a close friend. David had a passion for dogs. He had two special dog friends that will miss him greatly. David was a motorcycle enthusiast. Early in life, he was a competitive motorcycle Trials rider. There are many trophies he had tucked away along with many memories of the events he participated in. David was quite a traveler earlier in life. He travelled many places in the United States and would share many stories of his adventures. David was a skilled woodworker. In his professional life, he was a finish carpenter. In his home shop, he made specialty items out of wood blessing his friends and family with his creations. David is survived by his father, Jerold Johnson, Lee & Diane (Johnson) Hacker (sister), Luke Hacker (nephew), Joe & Megan (Hacker) Bedford (niece) and Taylor & Brooke Bedford (great nieces). David was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Johnson. Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.
