Penelope "Pennie" Ann Castelline

Penelope “Pennie” Ann Castelline passed away October 8, 2022 in Des Moines, Iowa from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Pennie did one last good deed on her way to her new journey, she was able to gift her organs and help save other people’s lives. Pennie was born August 3, 2012 in Des Moines, IA to Shanna Ewing and Erik Castelline and lived a short but meaningful life. She loved her family, friends, pets, and doing good deeds for others. She thought everyone should just be kind. She loved the colors purple and black, animals, (mostly cats) and Beanie Boos. Pennie enjoyed family trips and activities, spending time outside and hanging out with her friends. To know that she helped others in a big way, would bring the biggest smile to her cute freckled face. She was a smart, witty, charming and a caring little girl. Pennie lived each of her days happy and had as much fun as she could because after all, she was a 10 years old kid and that’s how she lived. She touched all of our lives with goodness and silliness and she will be missed every day. Pennie is survived by her parents, Shanna Ewing and Erik Castelline; her brother, Dylan (Maya) Jurgens; nephew, Airis; cat, Zoey; grandparents, Tony and Laura Castelline and Anna Kayser; grandfather, Ray O’Connor; great grandma, Joanne Mahedy; aunts and uncles, Garrett (Haley) Castelline; Aunt Jen (Scott) Chase and Kristen Castelline and many more great aunts and uncles, cousins, family and her friends. She was preceded in death by her great grandpa, Dan Mahedy; uncle, Justin O'Conner; and great uncle, Troy Shafer. A celebration of Pennie’s life will be 6 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2022 with a visitation from 3 PM until service time at Walnut Woods State Park. 3155 Walnut Woods Drive in West Des Moines, IA. Following the celebration of life, a candlelight vigil will occur in memory of Pennie.
