Obituary: Larry S. Zimmer Larry S. Zimmer passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and comforted by the presence of his beloved wife, Kathryn M. Zimmer. Born in Mystic, Iowa, Larry lived a life defined by service, curiosity, generosity, and devotion to family. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force and carried that same commitment and dedication throughout his life. Larry had a passion for technology and was fascinated by computers long before they became commonplace. He enjoyed spending time on his HAM radios, target shooting, and capturing life's moments through his camera lens. Whether photographing people, places, or memorable events, Larry had a gift for preserving memories that would be cherished for years to come. For many years, Larry shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with students as a judge at the Iowa Industrial Technology Expo at Southeast Polk, encouraging young minds and supporting future generations. His vast knowledge, quick wit, and willingness to help others made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Above all else, family was Larry's greatest treasure. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved, and his unwavering devotion to his family was evident in all that he did. Larry was preceded in death by his son, John Zimmer; his brother, Robert Zimmer and his wife Margaret Zimmer; his sister, Rosalie Gladfelder and her husband, Pastor Kermit Gladfelder; his sister, Norma Crow and her husband, Jim Crow; and his sister, Twila Mackie and her husband, Curt Mackie. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Kathryn M. Zimmer; his son, Steven R. Zimmer and wife Tara Zimmer; and his cherished grandson, Eli Zimmer. Larry is also survived by his two granddaughters, Gabriella M. Zimmer and Kinley G. Zimmer, along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss his presence and friendship. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Oakwood United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood United Methodist Church 400 NE 56th Street in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Burial will follow, with a meal and time of fellowship afterward at the church. Larry's legacy of kindness, knowledge, humor, and generosity will live on in the countless lives he touched. Though he will be greatly missed, his family finds comfort in the memories he created and the example he set. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
