Irene Marjorie Golliday

Irene Marjorie Golliday was born, December 23, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa to Edna and Emil Magnuson. She passed away June 25, 2014 at the age of 89 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa. Irene graduated from Lincoln High School (1943) in Des Moines. She attended Grandview College and worked as a dental assistant. She was united in marriage to Harold Golliday, to this union one son, Bill, was born. Irene was a homemaker and she was very proud of her Swedish Heritage. She always stayed very active and enjoyed bowling, cooking (especially Swedish recipes), and reading. Irene especially loved a good meal with friends and especially at a fine Tea Room. She volunteered at Park Ave Elementary School and loved reading to the young children. Irene was a member of the Park Ave Presbyterian Church; the Presbyterian Women’s group, Ladies Aux of Vets of WW1 1123, was a volunteer at Calvin Community and a member of the BO Chapter T.T.T. She also spent time with the Retired Railroad Group. She is survived by: a brother, Earl Magnuson of Little Rock, Arkansas; her nephews, Mark (Lucile) Magnuson and their daughter, Kelsey, of Nashville, Tennessee; and David (Martha) Magnuson and their children Erik and Audrey, of Foster City, California; cousins, Raymond & Eileen Anderson and their sons, Jeff (Brenda) Anderson and Brian (Lisa) Anderson of Ankeny; Bernice Miller of Fountain, Minnesota; Carolyn (Jim) Riley of Peoria, Arizona; Beverly Mitchell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Richard (Marilyn) Anderson of Edmond, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold Golliday; and her son, Bill Golliday. She also leaves many special friends, including Wayne & Marlene Jennings and Marsha & Bruce Herman. Irene loved helping others in need, she will be missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church, 3120 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, IA 50315. Burial of her cremated remains will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, where she will join her husband, Harold and son, Bill. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Irene.
