George T. Eldridge

George T. Eldridge, Jr., was born December 1, 1942 in Mt. Holly, NJ to George and Dorothy Eldridge. He died July 17, 2021 in West Des Moines in the presence of family and a lot of love. He attended Bernards High School and received his BA in math & physics and MBA in finance from Rutgers University. Starting to become an actuary, he became intrigued with computer programming, working on several early automation programs. Most of his career was spent in the IT departments of insurance companies. In his late 40’s he had worked his way up to CIO of Central Life in Des Moines and continued that work for companies in Raleigh, NC and Orlando, FL. In retirement, George spent many hours volunteering. He was president of the Perry Food Pantry and volunteered with United Way’s VITA program. He was an active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed conducting nursing home worship services. After moving to WDM, he continued with VITA and the United Way’s reading program for elementary school children. George enjoyed playing chess online, golf, reading history, walking and traveling. George loved big family gatherings and having friends over for drinks and dinner. George was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ray & Warren Eldridge. George is survived by his wife, Karen Peters; sons, Michael (Erin) Eldridge; Matt Eldridge (Kim) and Thomas Eldridge, daughter, Jennifer Eldridge; step-sons, Tom (Susanne Sherry) Peters and Chris (Meghan) Peters; half-brother, Ken Eldridge and half-sister, Karen Eldridge. Also by his much loved grandchildren whom he so much wanted to see to maturity, Carter, Felicia and Kaitlyn Eldridge; Gannon Jeffries and Louis Hanson-Peters. In-laws, Andrea & Rus Heerdt; Glenda & Mike Hanback & Tom Goff. Special friends Tom Torstenson & Susan, Mark R & Viv Shirley. A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, WDM at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 30th with family greeting friends at 3 p.m. A reception will follow the service.
