Donna Christine Winterhalter

Donna Christine (Stodden) Winterhalter was born September 19, 1954 to Shirley Dews and Gerald Stodden. She passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in Des Moines, Iowa at the Kavanaugh House on 56th Street. Donna grew up in Indianola Iowa and graduated from Indianola High School in 1972. On July 4, 1976 Karl and Donna were married and celebrated 40 loving years together. Karl and Donna lived in Des Moines Iowa on Tonka Avenue where Donna was a stay at home Mom and enjoyed raising her children Krista and Doug as they grew up. Over the years, Donna worked for Dahl’s Grocery Store, Norwest Bank, Barr-Nunn Transportation and Dunn Chiropractic Office. Most recently Donna worked for Bass Pro Shop in Altoona Iowa where she worked in Customer Service and was proud of being one of the “original” from this store since it first opened. Donna enjoyed traveling with Karl and their children Krista and Doug on many family vacations over the years to such places as Branson, Wichita, San Diego, Florida, Colorado and Wisconsin. She enjoyed taking lots of family videos during these vacations to forever capture their family memories. Donna always enjoyed being a Grandma to her seven Grandchildren; Ryan, Kayla, Andrew, Olivia, Jacob, Lucas and Abbie. She never missed a moment in their lives helping celebrate holidays, each of their birthdays and other special occasions with them. She will be greatly missed by all seven grandchildren but they will forever be grateful to their Grandma for all the love and support she gave to them over the years. Donna and Karl moved to Elkhart Iowa several years ago where Donna could spend lots of her spare time on several of her favorite hobbies gardening, spending time outdoors especially on her front porch where she loved reading books. Donna had an all-time love of Nascar Racing and her favorite driver Jeff Gordon in the number 24 car. She would always like to see him win or crash and was one of his biggest fans!! Donna is survived by her husband, Karl Winterhalter of Elkhart Iowa; daughter, Krista Skow and son-in-law John Skow, children Ryan, Andrew and Olivia of Ankeny Iowa; son, Douglas Winterhalter and daughter-in-law Kristen Winterhalter, children Kayla, Jacob, Lucas and Abbie of Palm City Florida; her brother, Jerry Stodden (Mike) and sister, Nancy Stodden. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Stodden, and mother, Shirley Dews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1pm Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa. Friends may visit with family from 11 a.m. until service time.
