Dennis Dwayne "Denny" Hagan

Dennis “Denny” Hagan, age 73 from Altoona, Iowa was born January 29, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa to Paul and Betty Watters Hagan. Denny went to the arms of Jesus to be free from pain and suffering from a skin disease and cancer, on May 3, 2022, at Mercy Medical Centre in Des Moines Iowa. Denny graduated from Grandview college June 1969 and then attended Iowa State University for three years. Denny married Sue “Diannia Sue” Wallace on June 7, 1969. To this union two children were born, daughter, Sherry Lou and a son, Dewayne Douglas Hagan. Denny worked at Sears on Merle Hay Road for 30+ years before he retired. During that time, he also worked at Sears on Fleur Drive as well as the Southridge stores. After retirement, he went to work for a furniture store and Menards in Ankeny, part time but eventually went full-time in Ankeny, until his retirement. He always had plans to eventually return to work at Menards. Denny’s best accomplishments in life were his children and his grandchildren. He was so proud of all they had attained, whether it was school, sports, the purchase of a new home or the all-important a new car or truck! De nny took advantage of sales of all kinds, but particularly with Sears and Menards. Sue always said that if Sears had babies on sale that they would have 100. Denny is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue Hagan; his daughter, Sherry and Jamie Walker and their children, Allyson (Nic Roney) Walker, Nathan (Mary McKee) Walker and Lily Walker; son, Dewayne Hagan and his son, Connor Hagan; Denny’s brothers, Gary (Diane) Hagan and David (Jeanne) Hagan; lifelong friend, John and Donna Fisher: brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, and his two great aunts who were very special to him during his life. Denny rededicated his life to the Lord during the latter months of his illness, He was ready to go home to be with the Lord with no more pain or suffering from the skin disease or the cancer, he had endured the last five years. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 AM. Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Sunshine Open Bible Church E. 22nd St. and Easton Boulevard. Visitation will be 10 AM Saturday, May 21, 2022, until service time. Burial of his cremated remains will be at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the family in loving memory of Denny or to the Sunshine Open Bible Church. Thank you to all our neighbor’s and family and friends for being there for myself and for our children during this very difficult time in our lives.
